  • Sixty four acts have been confirmed for this year’s Sonar Festival. The improvised techno project Narod Niki is slated to play the opening Thursday night of the festival. Narod Niki is a project made up of various rotating members including Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Luciano, Monolake and Dandy Jack. The precise lineup at Sonar has yet to be announced. Beastie Boys will play two concerts; an instrumental one with Narod Niki on Thursday in SonarPark, and another live gig on the Friday night, where they will be playing their hits. Eighties synth-pop heroes Devo are booked to play their first gig in Europe in seventeen years. This will be the first date on a European mini-tour. Showcases at the festival include an Innervisions bill with RA podcasters Âme, Dixon and Château Flight lined up to spin; a dubstep exhibit featuring Kode 9 & The Spaceape, Various Productions, Skream, Oris Jay and Radio One’s Mary Anne Hobbs; and a dance punk showcase featuring Justice, Uffie feat. Feadz and DJ Mehdi. Also on offer is an Ed Banger showcase, and a new-ravey one with Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco, New Young Pony Club and remixer of the year Radio Slave doing the honours. Big dance names Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke and Miss Kittin will be back for Sónar by Night in 2007. Matthew Dear's new live project The Matthew Dear Live Band (well, duh) will also perform at Sonar by Night. Elsewhere on the night bills will be techno pop from Junior Boys, glitch from Pita and experimental noise rock from Wolf Eyes, Mogwai and KLT (Stephen O’Malley from Sunn o))). Local Barcelona talents representing include Night Of The Brain, a project featuring Cristian Vogel on guitar, and Nettle, the new DJ/Rupture vehicle. Also on offer will be Sonar’s usual Japanese quota, headed up by electronic rock revivalist Cornelius. For the first time, China will also be travelling to Sonar, with White, 718 and FM3 performing. The latter of which will play el cheapo cult Chinese instrument the FM3 Buddha Machines no doubt. The Sónar Festival takes place on June 14, 15 and 16, 2007.
