Two Lone Swordsmen's latest album moves further towards rock. 'Wrong Meeting' will be released mid-April.
Two Lone Swordsmen is house producer Andrew Weatherall and studio engineer Keith Tenniswood. Formed in 1996, after the dissolution of Weatherall’s dub project Sabres of Paradise, the Swordsmen have indulged in a variety of styles on their seven albums and uncountable remixes, from electro to post punk to IDM.
‘Wrong Meeting’ is billed as a progression from their 2004 effort ‘Double Gone Chapel’, which blended electronics and post-punk attitude to unnerving effect. “It’s a real extension of the last one,” says Andrew Weatherall. “It’s still got that wonky charm we do so well, but it’s a bit more structured.”
Weatherall promises to reach deeper into his rock bag of tricks for ‘Wrong Meeting’, promising guitar chords and elements of rockabilly alongside the electronics. No surprises really, with Weatherall being the man responsible for inventing indie dance in the late eighties with his production work for Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine, but his latest move is billed as rockier still: Two Lone Swordsmen now even a fully fledged live band, with Weatherall on vocals and Tenniswood on guitar. “Go to the past, but look to the future, don’t get bogged down in the present,” Weatherall told RA. “It’s about distilling the essence, be it from the fifties or the present day.”
