  • Applications have opened for this year’s Red Bull Music Academy, which will happen in Toronto this year from September 23rd to October 26th. The Red Bull Music Academy is a traveling school which teaches aspiring musicians how to DJ, produce and generally get ahead in the music industry. The two-week terms aim to cover all major aspects of DJ culture, and each year the academy invites DJs, producers and industry movers and shakers in to lecture. Sounds pretty dry? With past schoolteachers including Carl Craig, Dixon, Larry Heard and Mathew Jonson, it won't be. More info and an application form for 2007 are available at the Red Bull Music Academy website, which is also a great resource for those who can’t make it. There is a huge archive of video and audio interviews to dig into on the site, and the lectures from last year’s event in Melbourne have just gone up. Speakers included Alex Smoke, Daniel Wang, Kode 9 Derrick May and Maurice Fulton (under that hat on the right). Applications for this year’s season in Toronto close on May 5th, 2007.
