Breakspoll’s Best DJ three years running is about to get his long-anticipated slice of the ‘Fabriclive’ series. ‘Fabriclive 34’ arrives in June.

After a decade of EPs, co-productions, relentless touring and last-minute delays due to sample clearance, Krafty Kuts, aka Martin Reeves, finally released his debut artist album ‘Freakshow’ last October on Against The Grain. That album spawned a slew of hit singles (‘Tell Me How You Feel’ and ‘Bass Phenomenon’ being the biggest), won Best Album at this year’s Breakspoll awards and cemented Krafty’s Outstanding Contribution to Breakbeat win.

‘Fabriclive 34’ promises to mirror ‘Finger Lickin’ Export 02’ mix put out last summer by Krafty Kuts’ longtime collaborator A. Skillz, combining straight-out breaks with a heavy dose of influences from across the board. "It's all about the depth, the musical range,” says Reeves. “I'm taking all my influences from Latin, to a little bit of hip-hop, to funk, keep it pumping though and keeping it groovy. I also work really hard to put my own exclusive tracks on there to make it interesting with lots of scratching, quick mixing, lots of loops and edits - kind of like throwing everything into the cooking pot and mixing it around a little bit.”

Tracks off ‘Freakshow’ show up in a variety of iterations: ‘Bass Phenomenon’ remains virtually untouched, while the title track gets a total upfront overhaul and Dynamite MC’s vocal off of ‘There They Go’ gets refitted with Freestylers’ ‘In Love With You’. In keeping with the times, Krafty doesn’t skimp on the mash-ups, tossing together nu-skool breaks dons such as A. Skillz and Milke (a.k.a. Friendly and Ra Khahn) with old-school hip-hoppers Lords of the Underground and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. Most memorable, however, promises to be DJ Assault’s raunchy vocal from Deekline & Wizard’s ‘One in the Front’ cut with Joe Jackson’s 1979 New Wave non-classic ‘Is She Really Going Out With Him?’ To top it off, there’s a whole host of cuts from breaks’ young elite: Maelstrom, Splitloop, Madox, and Aquasky.
