Berlin label Sonar Kollektiv celebrates its tenth birthday with a 2CD label compilation ‘Ten Years, Who Cares?’
Sonar Kollektiv was founded in 1997 by Jazzanova, a cast of characters that includes musicians, DJs, graphic designers and artists. Disc one of ‘Ten Years, Who Cares?’ brings together seventeen classic Sonar Kollektiv tracks, while the second disc consists of a Jazzanova mix. Expect a variety of sounds on the first disc, which ranges from trip-hop (Micatone) to minimal house (Soulphiction) and folk-tinged grooves (Thief). The Jazzanova mix is a more house-bound affair with tracks by label regulars Âme, Wahoo and Tokyo Black Star among the selections.
Look out also this Autumn for Volker Meitz from Jazzanova presenting versions of some of the cuts here as Sonar Kollektiv Allstars Orchestra, complete with backing band and string section.
