Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Michael Mayer and Superpitcher collaborating on a concept album.
‘Supermayer Save the World’ promises to rival ‘Tommy’ in the concept album stakes, with a storyline, heroes, a live show and visuals courtesy of illustrator Kat Menschik included on the CD and gatefold 2xLP sleeves. Musically, the two Kompakt supermen have decided to expand their palette beyond the label’s regular electronics, finding room for trumpets, saxophones, acoustic guitars, flutes and even a gong. The twelve-track album also promises to stray away from the label’s signature techno thump, containing forays into kooky indie pop (‘The Art of Letting Go’, ‘Us and Them’) and lounge experiments (‘Cocktails For You’) amidst ambient interludes. “Will keep you grinning from ear to ear beginning to end,” says the press notes. Take that, Lex Luthor!
