After a four year hiatus, Belgian label Eskimo revive their namesake series with veteran disco dons The Glimmers behind the decks. 'Eskimo 5' is out in early September.

Eclectic/disco/electro label Eskimo has been finding particular success with its mix CDs lately, issuing volumes by the likes of Optimo, Ivan Smagghe, Headman, Prins Thomas, Radio Slave, Rub N Tug, Recloose, Chromeo and DJ Naughty. Next on the agenda is a continuation of their flagship 'Eskimo' mix series, mixed as always by The Glimmers, the original founders of Eskimo and veterans of the mix CD: Incredibly, 'Eskimo 5' will be their twentieth commercial mix.

The CD features nineteen tracks by diverse names such as Shirley Bassey, Primal Scream, Herb Alpert, LCD Soundsystem, Eugene Record, Trio, Tussle, The Caravan and The Glimmers themselves. Think divas, rock n rollers, europoppers and long-forgotten world music names, i.e. think deep crate-digging.

Tracklist

01. Primal Scream – Loaded
02. Shirley Bassey – Slave To The Rhythm
03. Venus Gang – Love To Fly
04. LCD Soundsystem – All My Friends
05. Herb Alpert – Bullish
06. Mac Attack – The Art Of Drums
07. Dissidenten – Fata Morgana
08. Pop Dell´Arte – Querelle
09. Kenneth Bager – Fragment One...And I Kept Hearing
10. The Glimmers – Kiss Me
11. Cultural Vibe – Ma Foom Bey
12. Eugene Record – I Dont Mind
13. Pleasure Pump – Fantasize Me
14. Das Etwas – Go Ahead
15. Patrick Coutin – J´aime Regarder Les Files
16. Trio – Da Da Da
17. Tussle – Warning
18. Dachambo – Conga La Gotta
19. The Caravan – Somewhere In Arabia

'Eskimo 5' mixed by The Glimmers will be released on Eskimo on September 10th, 2007.comment 4 Comments

Sun, 18 Nov 2007I only became a registered member because I can't stand any more, that you're systematically writing bullshit and about albums and compilations. I know it's usually only one person's opinion (who probably has nothing to do with electronic music), but 2 and a half for the glimmers stuff, it must be joke

what is your problem with the glimmers?

Fri, 16 Nov 2007Fully agreed with Jacob Wright's review of 'Fabriclive 31' until I listened to it again this summer and loved it (apart from the 'Dance Me In' bit - truly awful). Picked up this disc on the strength of that re-listening, and love it to death!! Definitely agree that the first half is best, but like a lot of tunes in the second. I think The Glimmers should maybe just always get a 'no review matters' pass...their mixes compared to most other DJs' are just completely above criticism as they don't... More
