  • Nearly 2000 days on from 'A Hundred Days Off', Underworld finally release their fifth studio album. 'Oblivion With Bells' arrives in October. That's not to say Karl Hyde and Rick Smith have been slacking off. Since 'A Hundred...' five years ago, the UK duo have scored two films (Anthony Mingella's "Breaking and Entering" and Danny Boyles' "Sunshine"), published a typographic journal ("In The Belly of Saint Paul"), released scads of digital-only releases, set up an internet radio show as well as played scores of gigs around the world. Apparently they've been collecting material the whole time for 'Oblivion With Bells', which was finally completed in spring this year. The album was recorded with the aid of laptops, a couple of home studios, a pig shed and Abbey Road's legendary facilities, and apparently Darren Price, Brian Eno and Larry Mullen from U2 even helped with the final track selection. The album promises to draws heavily on Rick and Karl's influences, which are listed as Nick Drake, Def Mix, Ricardo Villalobos, Can, James Holden and Brian Eno. According to the press notes, the album promises to "kick off like Saturday night with Sven Väth, Simian Mobile Disco and Frankie Knuckles all fighting to get on the decks, then takes you over the flat fields of rural Essex, through Kings Cross with its Olympic dreams and piss stained alleys, ending blissed out in a hidden cove in Ibiza." Tracklist 01. Crocodile 02. Beautiful Burnout 03. Holding The Moth 04. To Heal 05. Ring Road 06. Glam Bucket 07. Boy, Boy, Boy 08. Cuddle Bunny vs The Celtic Villages 09. Faxed Invitation 10. Good Morning Cockerel 11. Best Mamgu Ever 'Oblivion Will Bells' by Underworld will be released on PIAS on October 12th, 2007.
