It's that time of year again. Sven Vath's best-of-Ibiza compilation series hits volume number eight next month.

Despite a shaky start with Amnesia getting shut down and Cocoon being forced into hold their opening party at Privilege, this year's Cocoon parties in Ibiza reportedly ended up breaking all records in terms of numbers. Subtitled 'Freakshow' with a photoshoot to match, Vath's Ibiza residency closed out three weeks ago with a quadruple header of Vath, Villalobos, Hawtin and Luciano, but if you missed it, Uncle Sven has handily compiled the tracks that made Amnesia jump this summer onto his annual double CD.

'The Sound of the Eighth Season' once again focuses on new talent, with up and comers such as Alejandro Vivanco, Tolga Fidan and Mark August making the cut alongside tech house/techno stalwarts such as Joris Voorn, Carl Craig and Alter Ego. Part of the pleasure of the series is hearing new bubbling under tracks mixed together bigroom style, but a look at the press notes and this year's volume is billed as more than that: On the mix Sven "doesn't give his opinion of what techno was, is or might be," says Cocoon. "But he rather delivers the soundtrack to a certain concept of life." We're not quite sure what that concept might be, but judging by the bags under the eyes of Ibiza returnees this year, it was a messy one.

Fri, 07 Mar 2008yea the tracklisting kind of doesn't fit, especially his style of playing, but it's still a good album, i bought it and i would still recommend it to others

Fri, 29 Feb 2008Agree with Saatchi . 'Functional at best' describes his mix style doesnt it.. The tune selection is amazing of course(bar Alter Ego - i just don't get it, it doesnt fit), but it's so dissapointing sven doesnt push the limits of djing like hawtin et al are doing right now.. and yeh, the tracks go on for too long - a 9 minute opener, yawn!

Fri, 29 Feb 2008I agree with the review...the tracks go on to long, we are used to hearing DJ's being more creative nowdays, cuting and looping ect. Still a good cd for the Commercially minded.
