Guillaume Coutu Dumont dishes up ten tracks of Montreal-style funk on his debut longplayer ‘Face A L’Est’.

Guillaume’s debut album arrives on local label Musique Risqué, the collective effort of Vincent Lemieux, Akufen, Deadbeat and Stephen Beaupré, who claim to hail Guillaume as a Svengali-like figure.

The record promises to be an odd beast: trained as a percussionist, Guillaume claims influence from months spent wandering in Senegal in West Africa as well as time spent in academia studying classical percussion. More disco-fried than his contemporaries, Face A L’Est is turning heads not only because it’s front and centre of the record racks this month, but because Guillame’s also got a live thing happening – check RA events for dates in Berlin, Valencia, Barcelona and Frankfurt this month.

Tracklist

01 Salaat Linkuere
02 Can't Cheat With Concrete
03 Domdom
04 Les Cans
05 Harmattan
06 Salaat Dakar
07 Yenon
08 Ze Blob
09 They Only Came Out At Night
10 Fat Cat

’Face A L'Est’ by Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts is out now on Musique Risqué.comment 5 Comments

Tue, 11 Dec 2007this is one of my best favourite picks in 2007.

but one tiny bad thing is the music kinda lack of a sparkling intense...that make the whole music stand out more.

er.........indeed, it's truely what minimal techno means for

Mon, 03 Dec 2007i really love it.. from deep techy stuff like apparatish 'Domdom' and melodic stuff like 'the only come out at night' to chilled 'fat cat'.. nice one!

Sun, 02 Dec 2007it's fucking lovely, BUT i too obviously hear ableton's plugins pass the revue.

beatrepeats and autofilters galore...but what the heck, it sounds hot. i'm in love with the 'Cant cheat concrete' track.
