Booze-swilling Germans The Wighnomy Brothers issue a new mix CD on Freude am Tanzen. Metawuffmischfelge arrives next month.

The Brothers, aka Robag Wruhme and Sören Bodner, are Jena's drunken masters of minimal house. Behind the decks the two are a jovial pair, often seen punching the air between tracks with an ever-decreasing bottle of plonk.

Metawuffmischfelge captures some of this, er, spirit with overlapping fragments of tracks from the likes of Agoria, DJ Koze, Mathias Kaden and Tadeo running on and reappearing throughout the mix. Besides the usual minimal house and techno players, there are also selections from Sidsel Endresen & Bugge Wesseltoft and Lisa Gerrard as well as snippets from Robag's secret stash of samples. The result is a tracklist which looks drunk, too.

This has to be good!

Sun, 25 Oct 2009I would consider this among the best Cds i own. I disagree with the cluttered description, it's layered and has a texture to it that is severely lacking amongst many minimalist house mixes. Emotive and melodic, yet bouncy at times and always full of invention. Top Notch.

Thu, 04 Dec 2008Really enjoyed this mix. I sometimes find it hard to digest a lot of minimal techno, but this was a real treat.

Thu, 05 Jun 2008Jeremy makes some great points here, but another thing to think about concerning reader ratings is the question of who will actually rate the records. As Jeremy says, this will no doubt be fuelled by reactionary ratings in comparison to the reviews, plus the fact that the people that are more likely to actually vote are going to be people who have heard and like the record. Would you really go around rating records 0/5 that you didn't like, or would you just not be that bothered about it?... More

Thu, 05 Jun 2008I'm not sure negative reviews are necessarily 'unfair'. and people who glance at scores to decide on purchases can't really expect to find stuff they might enjoy - they're just not trying hard enough.

Personally I reckon there's a good balance between opinion and community opinion here. If you let a site become too community orientated you risk ending up with crap like the BBC news website, where the quality of the official material gets more and more compromised by... More

Thu, 05 Jun 2008To be honest the suggestion isn't born out of anything other than allowing forum users to submit their score along with their comments to balance out the review - it's a common feature used on many sites and it simply gives a score based on general opinion rather than one person's interpretation, and I don't get the impression that it puts people off reading other's opinions, in fact it very often stimulates more. If the reviewer isn't particularly keen on the style being reviewed or is bored... More
