Montreal’s Mutek Festival announced the first names of its forthcoming ninth edition today, promising sets from the likes of techno legend Carl Craig, beloved Brit Radio Slave, dubstep doyens Kode 9 & Spaceape and Swedish producer The Field, who will be performing his celebrated ambient house with a live band.

Other performers will include a Vakant special with Onur Özer and Mathias Kaden, the tight techno of Jeremy P. Caulfield and German and French pranksters Modeselektor and Nôze. (No word yet on whether Modeselektor will be bringing the monkey suits.)

With more acts to be announced in mid-April, we’re figuring this one to be the best reasons to go to Canada since, well, the last edition of Mutek. The festival will be held from May 28th to June 1st, 2008.

Tue, 17 Jun 2008For some reason, Lillevan's visuals didn't do a thing for me for either Rechenzentrum or Fennesz. I think the reason is because I was on the balcony (front row, which I had been told had the best sound). I think the dimmer light and smaller projection size, rather annoying from farther away, would have looked much better from the floor. Ah well.
