Dutch trio Noisia roll out a dark brand of drum n bass for the new FabricLive.

Dutch youngsters Noisia roll out their dark brand of drum n bass for the next installment in the FabricLive series. FabricLive.40 is out next month.

Nik Roos, Martijn van Sonderen and Thijs de Vlieger - all of whom are under 25 - have been making sci-fi dnb since 2003, with several tech-heavy, glitch-happy tracks signed to major genre labels Ram Records and Shogun Audio. They also started up their own Vision Recordings in 2005, which branched off with Division Recordings this year to include electrohouse and breaks productions. Noisia have also turned in remixes for artists as varied as Freestylers, Amon Tobin and Moby, who's new single 'Alice' they gave a dnb overhaul.

FabricLive.40 is comprised mostly of the trio's own material as well as collaborations with Kiwi and Kraut counterparts The Upbeats and Phace, respectively. There's also new pressure from fellow rising dnb star Break ('Splash Step') and classic work from tech dnb dons Ed Rush & Optical, 1998's 'Medicine (Matrix Remix)'. In keeping with their new explorations of other genres, the mix's midsection is an electrohouse 'breather' featuring a handful of forthcoming tracks from Division.

Noisia have described FabricLive.40 as "a load of filth in a cage that's sometimes opened", whatever that means, and six pairs of fingers are crossed that it'll catch the attention of folks who run a little more Fabric than FabricLive. "I hope people are going to like it, especially techno people," says one Noisia member. "So many aspects of techno are related to drum n bass but they may never hear this kind of drum n bass. Maybe it will open some ears."

Tue, 17 Jun 2008Along the lines of Marcus Intalex's FabricLive.35, this mix brings the heat. For someone who is not into DnB, this works really well from end to end. One of my favorite mixes of the year so far.
