Richie Hawtin, The Field, Modeselektor, Simian Mobile Disco, James Holden and more headline the Field Day in Victoria Park this summer.

Now in its second year, Field Day is a one-day festival which combines dance, electronica, indie with a village fete feel. With different stages programmed by the likes of Eat Your Own Ears, Blogger’s Delight, Bugged Out! and NME, musically the festival is a varied lot, with headliners including Les Savy Fav, Of Montreal and even a DJ set from Helders of the Arctic Monkeys. Dance-wise, the lineup is strong with Simian Mobile Disco, The Emperor Machine, Benga, Modeselektor, and Richie Hawtin all stepping up to the plates. For the nostalgic, Field Day also features village fete-style fun n' games such a coconut shies, welly throwing, and even a tug of war.

Fri, 24 Oct 2008sound was utter shite, so gave up on the bugged out tent. found the myspace bus and it was banging, and chock full of melted folk... tremendous fun. Capped by the fact that the crookers then turned up and started playing.... a lot of fun. but £30 to dance on a bus!!!!!!!! wtf

Tue, 14 Oct 2008Thank god for Hawtin.... because without him it would have been the most embarrassing event of the year!!

Sound system didn't work properly due to 'wet weather' and one of the headliners walked off in a sulk due to 'lack of bass'. Honestly this country is embarrassing at the best of times.... a bit of unexpected weather and everything comes to a standstill!!

The fact that the tents were about 500-1000 people undersized and the organizers totally underestimated the volume of people turning... More

Tue, 26 Aug 2008^^ I really disagree with you on this one. Holden threw down warm, melodic goodness that made me forget about the cold, wet weather outside and I thought the approach he took to his set and mixing was refreshing and different.

Tue, 26 Aug 2008mmm...two big disagreements with this review, not just me but amongst everyone I went there with. Holden was utterly disappointing, his ploddy, grroveless set utterly lacking in any pace or direction. It seemed to kill the atmosphere and as it was pissing down outside made it even worse. Playing pretentious dubsteppy minimal 20 mins before Richie Hawtin was bizarre. And if you could be bothered to make you're way into the middle, there was plenty of space to dance to Hawtin, not as bad as say,... More

Sat, 23 Aug 2008Pretty miserable day all in all. Was liking Modeselektor until they decided to walk off, they might as well have played the last 20 mins of their set, still suppose they hadn't paid £30 to get in. I Didnt even bother staying for Hawtin in the end as my friend dared not drink too much in case she had to spend hours queing for the toilet. Was it me or were the tents there far, far too small for the amount of people there, even if it didn't rain?

Fri, 22 Aug 2008Re: the review - I disagree wrt to the Hawtin set. I've seen him quite a few times now and those two hours absolutely blew me away - one of the most enjoyable sets ive heard him play. The squeaky clean element is largely inevitable now he's lost the decks but I think what he can now do with the technology makes for an altogether new and exciting sound / experience. And compared to seeing him in fabric there was plenty of room to dance!

Nice review though, good work!
