- The Scottish duo will mix the next edition of Soma's celebrated mix series.
Slam will release the next edition of the Sci-Fi Hi-Fi mix series on Soma Records in July.
The duo behind Soma Records, Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle, have finally found the time to take their place behind the decks for their own imprint's celebrated mix series. Sci-Fi Hi-Fi 5 follows efforts from Luciano, Ewan Pearson, Alex Smoke and Funk D'Void and presents a mix of minimal techno that takes touches of influence from both Latin percussion and disco.
Slam last appeared on Soma in full-length form with 2007's Human Response, but is still perhaps best known for prog touchstone 'Lifetimes'. Sci-Fi Hi-Fi 5, however, is the next edition in a long string of DJ mixes from the duo that prove that they're still keeping their ears to the floor. Meikle says that the mix is a "tribute to our Return To Mono night at the Sub Club in Glasgow. Some of the biggest records from the night feature. For us it was important that all the tracks were carefully selected, so we haven’t shied away from some older tracks that are big in character and in our DJ sets."
