Cadenza will present its first artist full-length in September with Los Updates' First If You Please.

Leave it to Luciano to give the honor of his label's first artist full-length to the most unexpected of choices: Los Updates is the project of Chilean legend Jorge González. Sure, it isn't that crazy: The singer, who made his name in the '80s as the frontman of the politically-inclined rock group Los Prisioneros, has collaborated with minimal techno royalty before, most notably Dandy Jack in the Gonzálo Martínez project.

But First If You Please, despite being branded as "Luciano presents," seems to be all his own. And judging by a first listen, it sounds like it could only come from a singular perspective. While the album maintains a 128 BPM pulse throughout, the album's tracks are defiantly strange, mixing burbling acoustics with smooth synthesizers and a whole lot of processing. The press notes claim, "House, pop, 2-step, 8-bit, funk, rave and balladry all come together in a glorious and glittering amalgam that's at once loosey-goosey and precise as clockwork." We couldn't agree more. This is definitely a bit of a weird one.

Eagle-eyed tracklist fiends will notice '4 Wheel Drive' opening up the record. And, yes, while it does contain the lyrics to the track found on Ricardo Villalobos' Fabric mix, the backing track is completely different. Luckily, though, plans are in the work to release a remix project of many of the album's tracks, which will come out throughout 2009 on vinyl and eventually be collected on CD.

Tracklisting
01. 4 Wheel Drive
02. My Soulmate And I
03. Some Pictures Of You
04. I Don’t Feel Like Coming Home
05. Sexual Madness
06. Inviting You Here
07. It’s Getting Late
08. Charlie Hold On

Cadenza will release First If You Please on September 22, 2008.

Sun, 21 Sep 2008Hmmm... not much love for this album out there at all. I think I might still give it a go though as I actually prefered the original mix of '4 Wheel Drive', I love dropping it in the middle of a deeper mix (maybe after a ripperton track), I'm probably the only person that does though...

Fri, 19 Sep 2008This album would have gotten 4 stars from me as an instrumental. His lyrics are just SO cheesy, they ruin it for me.

Fri, 19 Sep 2008He gets the attention because in Latin America Los Prisioneros are one of the most famous rock acts of all times...Being from Lima I remember hearing Prisioneros songs my entire life. Till this day they play their stuff on the radio. Its pretty much the same in most of Latin America...The Prisioneros tracks are actually 100000x times better than Los Updates although they're pretty much 80s synth-rock sung in spanish the lyrics are pretty awesome if you can understand them. Actually they're... More

Fri, 19 Sep 2008I have this 'theory' that Gonzalez is Luciano & Ricardo's dope dealer because otherwise I can't explain why they bother with him and his whiny voice.
