  • The Lake of Stars festival, which takes place in the southern Africa Republic of Malawi, has announced its lineup and a planned benefit event. The African festival is in its fifth edition this year and has marked the occasion by moving its base to Senga Bay and Sunbird Livingstonia Beach, promising more facilities and accommodations than before, while maintaining a strong relationship with the country. The festival, which will feature a broad array of talent from genres far and wide. Electronic-wise, the major name on the bill, however, is Mary Anne Hobbs and Scratch Perverts. The event, which serves to "raise money for a developing economy and charities and help raise the profile of Malawi as a tourist destination," will be donating money to the MicroLoan Foundation this time around, which provides "small loans, business training and continuing guidance to groups of women in sub-Saharan Africa." If you can't make it out to Malawi on such short notice, there's still a chance to help. This Sunday at East Village, some of the artists that will be making their way to the African festival will be playing. It's a free event for most of its duration, but we're guessing that they'll gladly take some of your hard-earned cash and give it to the MicroLoan Foundation.
