The Middle East gets an electronic music festival

Organizers are touting Coma as the first dance music festival in the region.

The United Arab Emirates finally has an electronic music festival.

Coma, which is set to take place on November 14th is being touted as the first festival of its kind in the area. As one of the richest countries in the world, that's a bit hard to believe, but we'll take their word for it. Besides, who wants to quibble when you have a lineup that includes Sandy Rivera, Meat Katie, Wally Lopez, Nic Fanciulli, ATB, Marco V, Cosmic Gate and more?

As if that wasn't enough, the shindig is set to go down on an island twenty minutes from the coast of Abu Dhabi on a private island called Al Maya that will be open to the public for the event. In other words, for 16 hours you too can live like an oil magnate.

If you really want to complete the weekend in style, you can also make your way to day two of the festival in your private jet. That's right: the second leg of Coma will take place in an entirely different country. (Lebanon, to be exact.) Featuring Christopher Lawrence, John Acquaviva and Wally Lopez, the party will continue in Beirut at the Forum De Beyrouth. As Lopez is pulling double duty over the weekend, we recommend you stick with him to find your way. comment 13 Comments

Wed, 05 Nov 2008 You don't deserve a festival because you support an undemocratic regime by working there. Money is why you're there - that's also the ONLY reason you get any dj's there at all. Surprise surprise, it's also the money-hungry commercial dj's who will play there.

YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE.

& it's the same for Lebanon...there are not people here for money...

Mon, 20 Oct 2008what exactly do you mean by THEY? The UAEs population is made up of 85% expats, a vast majority of them being western. ive been living in dubai for 6 years and i can assure you that we have no influence whatsoever on any laws. considering this is a muslim country there are a lot of freedoms that we have. just the laws on drugs are very strict, but that is not only the UAE, take greece or turkey for instance.
and the other thing: yes we DO need a festival like this, more than any other region... More
