Amorphous Androgynous attempt to explode bubbles in your mind

Amorphous Androgynous are Future Sound Of London, but only the former will release a mix album later next month.

Ambitiously entitled A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding in Your Mind Vol. 1: Cosmic Space Music, the duo of Gaz Cobain and Brian Dougans, have followed up the surprise announcement that they will perform live at next year's Bloc Weekender with the news that they will release a double CD mix that is set to be the first in a series. The duo will confusingly follow it up with an edition by FSOL proper, but it's hard to argue with the results of this one: Cobain and Dougans eschew the normal mix route and go for a survey of the last forty years of psychedelic music—in whatever form it takes.

That means that the avant funk of Miles Davis, his one-time wife Betty Davis, freak folker Devendra Banhart, Donovan, Hawkwind, David Axelrod and more all share the spotlight over the course of these two discs with many more oddball choices. Unless the AA boys have dropped a house beat over top of all of this, we're guessing it's not going to be exactly the sort of dance mix that you're used to. But, then again, when have they ever done anything expected of them?
