Crosstown Rebels will release a tenth anniversary compilation on February 24th.2 Comments
The label, founded by Damian Lazarus in 2003, has risen to prominence over the past ten years with more than 100 releases (it was also our #1 label of 2011). All of these artists appear on the new three-disc collection, which dips into the label's history and also includes tunes from Seth Troxler, Dyed Soundorom, Amirali and Fur Coat.

The LP brings together material Rose released as part of his 12x12 series, which saw a new single released on the 12th day of each month in 2013. The Whole Twelve Inches, which will see release on Rose's own Play It Down label in February, will be followed by a remix LP in March, featuring the likes of Mathias Tanzmann, Sebo K, Guti and Mathias Kaden. Appropriately enough, Rose will play 12 shows in 12 countries to mark the album's release, starting in February 2014.

Aaron Funk, AKA Venetian Snares, will release an album with Toronto's Joanne Thompson called Poemss.1 Comment
The LP was recorded at Funk's house in Winnipeg over the first half of 2013. It's the first collaboration between the two artists, and a press release describes the record as "a collection of soft and dreamlike ballads" heavy on vocals—a stark contrast to the kind of punishing breakcore his Venetian Snares alias is associated with. Poemss includes the first song the duo wrote together and essentially charts their evolution as a unit. For more information on the album and the writing process, check out the interview with Pollock over at Ad Hoc, where album track "Moviescapes" is streaming in full. The record be released on Planet Mu, continuing Funk's long-running relationship with the UK label.
01. Ancient Pony
02. Heads On Heads
05. Miles Away
06. Gentle Mirror
07. Think Of Somewhere Nice
08. Losing Meaning

Planet Mu will release Poemss on February 11th, 2014.

Chris Shively (AKA Chrissy Murderbot) and Alex Burkat are starting a new label called The Nite Owl Diner.Post a comment
The imprint is the first collaboration between the two producers. Burkat had a strong debut on Mister Saturday Night this past spring, while Shively is a jack-of-all-trades DJ and producer known for being a font of knowledge about dance music subgenres, and has produced everything from footwork to ragga jungle under his Murderbot alias. More recently he's taken to house as Chris E Pants, and the first release on The Nite Owl Diner will come under that name (after his EP on Hypercolour). It's reportedly an "acid house bubbler," and comes backed up with a remix from Burkat.
B Hello? (Alex Burkat Remix)
The Nite Owl Diner will release Hello? on January 7th, 2014.

In late January, longtime French DJ and producer D'Julz will put out mixed compilation of tracks from his now four-year old label Bass Culture, aptly titled This Is Bass Culture: 4 Years Of Bass Culture Records Mixed By D'Julz.4 Comments
Bass Culture has its roots in D'Julz's residency (of the same name) at Rex Club, which is the longest-running night at that Paris hotspot. The label has championed house that's heavy on the low-end since it launched in late 2009, and it looks to keep going strong into 2014, with a collaborative EP from D'Julz and Rex Club resident Cassy—Bass Culture's 40th record—in the works.
This Is Bass Culture, to be issued in mixed, digital-only formats, is made of fifteen tracks in all. Twelve are from the label's back catalog, with efforts from artists like DJ Qu, Franco Cinelli, Mr G and D'Julz himself, in solo mode. Three more—Cassy and D'Julz's "What U See In Me" along with cuts from Chris Simmonds and Mr Tophat & Art Alfie—are unreleased but upcoming.
If you need something to tide you over until late January, you can stream this six-hour recording of Cassy and D'Julz sharing the decks at Rex Club back in August. And for fans in Paris, the next Bass Culture night, featuring Daniel Bell, happens this Saturday night.

As usual, Movement will take over the downtown area's Hart Plaza for a three-day event from Saturday through Monday, starting on May 24th. The first wave of performers features the usual mix of local Detroit staples and a handful of international artists. There's no info on the festival layout yet, but usually there are five stages spread around the site.
Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, Eddie Fowlkes, Kenny Larkin, Carl Craig, Mike Huckaby and Stacey Pullen are among the hometown heroes, while Dixon (our #1 DJ of the year), Carl Cox, Simian Mobile Disco, Pete Tong, Chris Liebing and Tale Of Us make up some of the big-ticket talent from elsewhere. HTRK have revealed details of their next album, Psychic 9-5 Club, due out in April 2014 through Ghostly International.1 Comment
The Australian outfit released their most recent full-length, Work (Work Work), in 2011. It was an album rooted in tragedy: band co-founder Sean Stewart died while it was a work in progress, leaving Jonnine Standish and Nigel Lee-Yang finish it themselves.
Psychic 9-5 Club, Standish and Lee-Yang's first album as a duo, was recorded at Blazer Sound Studios in New Mexico with Excepter's Nathan Corbin on production duties. It was then refined in Australia and finished off in New York over the summer. The record explores a number of themes, from love to the body's reaction to personal loss, and builds on the dubby elements that were audible on Work (Work Work).
It follows the recent 10-inch release from HTRK that featured a remix of Work (Work Work) track "Poison" by Mika Vainio—a long-time influence on the band—alongside a previously unreleased version of "Love Triangle." Lee-Yang recently turned in a mix for Secret Thirteen, which you can listen to here.

RA will host a party with James Holden at The Twisted Pepper on Saturday, February 22nd.1 Comment
Our first bash at The Twisted Pepper went down back in April, with Andy Stott, Cut Hands, Forward Strategy Group and Sunil Sharpe providing an evening of scorched techno and noise. This time we've got Border Community chief James Holden, the man behind one of 2013's most singular albums, The Inheritors. He'll be joined by Optimo's JD Twitch and breakthrough Hivern Disc signing New Jackson, with Adultrock (who will play live), Shane Linehan, Barry Redettaz and the disco-loving Home DJs rounding out the bill. A selection of RA films will be screened at the venue before the main event, from 6 PM to 7 PM. The party itself kicks off at 10 PM and runs through until 2:30 AM.
Tickets to the party are available here on RA.
