A collection of unreleased Vakula tracks called You've Never Been To Konotop-Selected Works 2009-2012 will come out on Firecracker Recordings in June.3 Comments
The album will be Mikhaylo Vityk's first full-length under the name Vakula, though he did release an LP last year as Vedomir. His album for Firecracker has been a long time coming, and his association with the Edinburgh label can be traced back to 2010. Selected Works 2009-2012 pulls together 12 previously unheard tracks, including one seemingly produced in homage to Amsterdam-based duo Juju & Jordash, titled simply "For Juju & Jordash." The title track is a reference to Vakula's hometown in the Ukraine.
Press notes suggests Selected Works 2009-2012 focuses on the producer's "more afro-cosmic and experimental ethnic material," and combines "elements of Ukrainian folk melodies, esoteric cryptic rhythm patterns, field recordings, interludes and overgrown organic effects." It will be released on hand-drawn, silk screened triple-vinyl and CD formats, with artwork from Firecracker head House Of Traps.

Dreamboat will release his next LP on July 1st.Post a comment
Victoria, BC-based artist Aaron Bergunder's origins in electronic music originally came from a more humourous place, remixing his band Colourbrook under the name KaraokeMF. Eventually he reinvented himself as Dreamboat, releasing the Fun Fools EP and Buddies album in 2009 and 2010 respectively, under the mentorship of fellow Victoria producer Monolithium. His second album, Boy, showcases a pared-down synth pop sound, with the press release describing it as "sensual slow jams... about boys and men and boys becoming men." The record will come through Hybridity, a BC imprint established last year.

05. Out Of Town

Renaissance Man have announced the details of a new label called Black Ocean.2 Comments
The imprint is said to be the Berlin-based Finnish duo's primarily outlet from here on out. Previously, most of their releases came through Made To Play and Turbo, with the latter putting out their 2011 debut LP The Renaissance Man Project. RA contributor William Rauscher called that one a "diverse and lively record... including dance floor tech-house, ambient excursions, post-punk ditties and minimal dub techno." Known for their light-hearted and experimental take dance music (see the telephone theme on this year's Call2Call EP), the music on their new three-tracker Early Man for Black Ocean is described as "paleo-corporate hardcore... post-tropical techno and critical house." We're not sure what that means either.
01. UFO (Where R U?)
02. Early Man
03. Hard Feeling
Black Ocean will release Early Man on June 24th, 2013.

Ryan Hemsworth will embark on a tour of Europe starting at the end of this month.
The Canadian artist has been on quite a hot streak since we profiled him for a Breaking Through feature late last year, including a well-received EP on Wedidit and an appearance on Friends of Friends—not to mention countless remixes. He's made that splash with his distinct take on hip-hop, which blends ambient and ethereal melodies with trap percussion, and he's especially infamous for his bootleg edits of pop and R&B tracks, like last year's breakout remix of "Thinking About You" by Frank Ocean.
He'll make his next trip to Europe under the banner of One Man Boy Band. His first stop will see him land in Copenhagen for Distortion festival on May 29th, before hitting Paris and Liege in the following days. On June 1st, he'll play an RBMA-sponsored show in Warsaw with Lapalux, and then he'll open for Toro Y Moi in London at KOKO on June 4th. From there, he'll hit Edinburgh at Sneaky Pete's, followed by a show in Amsterdam at Trouw on the 7th. His final date is an appearance at The Playground Festival in London, taking place on the 8th at Brixton Academy.
