Max Ulis and Humans singer Robbie Slade have teamed up as Sabota.Post a comment
The Vancouver artists' first collaboration hit at the beginning of the year in the form of "Next Time", which saw Slade singing over one of Ulis' chunky house beats. The latter is a longtime pillar of the Vancouver electronic scene, known for his role in the mid-2000s dubstep boom as well as a more recent move into house and techno. Slade, meanwhile, is vocalist for local synth pop band Humans, who released their first album last year.
After "Next Time" their partnership took off, and the two spent most of the year crafting their full-length, which is self-titled and will be released on Vancouver label Hybridity (also home to Humans) on January 27th. It's a ten-track affair that sees Ulis and Slade exploring the poppier sides of their personalities, and includes additional vocal spots from The Belle Game's Andrea Lo and local singer Chantelle Upshaw.
Listen to the duo's next single, "Stumble," here.

The 17th Scene party will take place in Detroit on December 14th.4 Comments
Blank Code started the Scene series back in 2011 as a new techno-centric series in the city. So far Drumcell, Truncate and Tommy Four Seven have been among the headliners. The 17th edition will feature the return of Mexico-based DJ Luis Flores, known as a member of LA techno crew Droid Behavior, and also as an associate of Blank Code's self-titled label. He'll be backed up by Minneapolis techno head Mike Gervais, Detroit's own Project 313, Blank Code member Altstadt Echo and plenty more. It'll happen at The Works, and will go all the way until 5 AM the next morning.
Check out Flores' CLR podcast from earlier this year here.

A new party series called Hlanganani will launch in Cape Town this weekend with Andre Lodemann.
Hlanganani, which means "come together" in Zulu, has been set up by husband-wife production duo Sahin Meyer as an outlet to promote South African artists. They'll host ten events over the coming months in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg in collaboration with local promoters. The series kicks off on November 29th with Andre Lodemann, who will be supported by a cast of local selectors including Terrence Pearce, Sahin Meyer, Julz Sanchez and Pierre-Estienne. Lodemann will then DJ at parties in Johannesburg and Durban on November 30th and December 1st respectively, before the series continues with further events featuring XDB and Mario Basanov, before wrapping up in Durban on December 22nd (the lineup for that one is still TBA).
In addition to the parties, a Hlanganani label is in the works, too. The first release will come from South African artist B'utiza and is backed with remixes from XDB and Christian Prommer.
Tickets to the Hlanganani events are available here on RA.

Moodymann has revealed details of a new LP called ABCD: The Album.12 Comments
Though the exact release date for the record hasn't been revealed, we do know that it'll comprise 12 tracks spread across two slabs of vinyl, and come through the producer's own label, Mahogani Music. The name of the record suggests it's a follow-up to ABCD, the mini-album that arrived through Mahogani earlier this year.
The opening track, "Hold It Down," was previously released on an album for Scion AV in 2012, but other than that ABCD: The Album appears to be new material. The LP's artwork features a painting of the producer, real name Kenny Dixon Jr., looking vaguely demonic. You can watch a video for album track "Come To Me," a co-production with fellow Detroit artist Andrés, below:
Update: The album now has a release date: December 20th, 2013 (via Juno Plus).
01. Hold It Down
02. Never Quite The Same
06. Sunday Hotel
07. Come To Me
08. Lyk U Used 2
10. U Look Like Ice Cream N The Summertime
12. Sloppy Cosmic
Mahogani Music will release ABCD: The Album on December 20th, 2013.

Following the closure of Row 14 in October, Elrow has announced its return to the Barcelona clubbing circuit.
Labelled Elrow City, the new party series will take place at the recently-opened KER Club (which is owned by the people behind Elrow.) In keeping with tradition, the events will run weekly on Sundays, though as clubnights instead of day parties (8 PM through 5 AM.) Nina Kraviz will headline the opening on December 1st, with Mumbai Science and Spanish techno duo Pig & Dan performing on the 8th and 15th respectively. Jamie Jones will drop by on the 22nd, with Bosnia-born Sinisa Tamamovic rounding out the year with an appearance on the 29th.
Richie Hawtin, Gaiser, Matador and Hobo will all perform as part of a Minus-themed Elrow on New Year's Day, before Seth Troxler resumes the Sunday series on January 5th. The party's core team of residents—Toni Varga, Marc Maya, Oscar Aguiler and Raul Mezcolanza—will be on revolving warm-up duty. While Elrow City events will still capture the playful, theatrical essence of the brand, the larger-scale decorations will be reserved for festivals or Elrow Town shows.
Tickets to Elrow City are available here on RA.

John Tejada and Kimi Recor will release their first album as Bavaria on February 11th.1 Comment
Recor, whom you might know as the vocalist for The Invisibles, has been a frequent collaborator with John Tejada, an LA-based producer, Kompakt signee and the boss of Palette Recordings. Though their relationship dates back to 2004, We'll Take A Dive is the duo's first full-length endeavour together. It's also their first under the name Bavaria, a name inspired by their shared German and Austrian heritage. The album's backing tracks were composed and produced entirely by Tejada (a known hardware buff) with no "extraneous instruments," according to a press release. The record will come out on Oakland-based n5MD, which has also been a home to artists like Arovane and Bvdub in recent years.
You can download opening track "We Break Through" here, and you can listen to an RA Exchange podcast Tejada with us earlier this year here.

05. Delicate Destroyer

n5MD will release We'll Take A Dive on February 11th, 2014.

Dutch producer Eelke Kleijn heads up a cast of regular faces that features LeOCh, Mesan and Shrug's own Dave Stuart. The second show, also at the Burdekin, will be on December 13th, with Lucidflow bosses Klartraum playing a live set followed by Nadja Lind, one half of the duo, DJing solo. The remainder of the lineup includes Trinity, Jimi Polar and Qu-Zen.
