  • Mancunian clubbing institution Sankeys have announced plans for Sankeys New York, a large-scale venue in Manhattan. The new club will sit in the Hell's Kitchen Area on 50th West Street, not far from Pacha New York. Much like its counterpart in Manchester, Sankeys New York promises to be something of a super-club, engulfing 16,000 square feet and accommodating as many as 1,100 guests. The venue will be equipped with "hydraulic LED video lighting" and a sound system by Advanced Audio Technology. For their first resident, Sankeys have tapped former Sound Factory jock DJ A-Luv. "Out of all the cities that have made Sankeys what it is, New York has, without a doubt, had the biggest influence on our music, design and technology," says owner David Vincent. "Sankeys has been organically built around the great traditions of New York... this is now our way of giving New York back what it gave Sankeys, with my own futuristic twisted twist of course." The new club marks the most recent project in Sankeys' outward expansion. In addition to seeking new venues in South America and Asia, Vincent recently attempted to set up a massive new concert hall in Manchester, though the project stalled earlier this year. So far, no exact opening date has been set for Sankeys New York, though estimates land in early 2011. To celebrate the announcement of the new club, Sankeys in Manchester will throw a party this weekend featuring A-Luv, Bronx-bred duo The Martinez Brothers and underground Brooklyn label Wolf + Lamb.
