- The Double Six artist has composed all original music for the upcoming sci-fi film.
London-based artist Jon Hopkins has composed the soundtrack for Monsters, a sci-fi film due for release in December.
Hopkins' records to date have balanced modern classical and electronic ambient, sometimes with scattered beats, sometimes without. He broke through to a new audience in 2008 when Coldplay enlisted him for some production work on Vida la Viva, then kept him in tow as an opening act on that year's international tour. DJs and electronic fans may know him from the acclaimed Remixes EP that came out this past summer, which showed his compositions reworked by Four Tet and Nathan Fake.
According to the trailer below, Monsters is a tale of an alien space probe, an "infected zone," and a cute blond girl that somehow gets mixed up in it all. Tasked with soundtracking the feature, Hopkins went for a more post-rock inspired sound than usual, complete with grand piano, dramatic strings and reverb-laden guitars. Excerpts from the album can be heard over on the film's official website. The soundtrack will see release at the end of November on the Domino sub-label Double Six Records, which has released much of Hopkins' recent catalog.
