  • Alex Smoke was hospitalized for a collapsed lung following a gig in Melbourne this past weekend. According to reports, the Scottish DJ and producer started feeling chest pains about 15 minutes into his live performance at Revolver on Sunday night. Smoke said it "hurt every time the bass kicked in," but he decided to persevere and finish his hour-long set. As soon as the performance ended he told club staff that he needed to be hospitalized, at which point he was rushed to the emergency room. There he was diagnosed with a collapsed lung, and is scheduled to undergo keyhole surgery today. As he is expected to remain in the hospital for at least another week, Smoke has been forced to cancel the rest of his Australian tour. He was scheduled to play at HAHA Industries' party in Sydney, a secretly located event in Auckland and the Strawberry Fields festival this Friday night outside Melbourne. A collapsed lung, referred to in medical terms as a pneumothorax, is most often caused by trauma to the chest but can also occur spontaneously, and is especially common among smokers, tall, thin males and people with certain preexisting conditions, such as asthma. In most cases it is an easily treatable and non-life threatening condition.
