  • Beatport officially expanded into the world of digital distribution last night by unveiling a new company called Baseware. According to a press release, Baseware aims to simplify the process of digital distribution for artists and labels, thereby helping them get their music on big digital streaming and retail sites. Beatport CEO Matt Adell explained the idea in a written statement: "Baseware, first and foremost, is about breaking down the barriers to getting your music heard—and actually getting paid for it—through distribution to Beatport, iTunes, Spotify, Rdio, Stompy, mobile and tablet applications, and whatever comes next." The company is managed by Jon Lemmon, a DJ and label owner who formerly ran another digital distribution company, OSEAO. It's up and running as of today—artists and labels interested in the service can enter their contact information on the homepage and expect a response within a few days.
