  • Ralph Cumbers, AKA Bass Clef, has released a free digital album under his Coseph Jonrad moniker, entitled FIAT Million Hits. The collection marks the half-way point in Cumbers' Paper Round Tapes series, in which he takes records he grew up listening to (often on his paper route) and remixes them track-by-track. FIAT Million Hits is a bit different from the others: rather than a classic album by one of Cumbers' favorite artists, it remixes an LP that came free with a car his family bought in the '80s. "I don't really understand the reason, but with our car came a scratch-card," he writes. "I think top prize was another car, but instead we won an LP. The sleeve-notes shout out jubilantly the successes of FIAT, and their million-unit-selling car. Why, I don't know. We'd already bought the car." To celebrate FIAT's million units sold, the album collected songs by artists who had sold millions of records. This means mainstream radio tunes like "Rio" by Duran Duran, "You Spin Me Right Round" by Dead or Alive and the Ghostbusters theme. In most cases, Cumbers' remix is a warped, distant echo of the original. You can download a zip file of the album, complete with the original's full liner notes and written introduction by Cumber, here on his label's website. Tracklist 01. Rio 02. Let's Stay Together 03.
