  • Further Records will put out its 100th release, Hyperboreal, on January 29th. The honours go to Italian artist Manuel Fogliata, AKA Nuel, who released his only other solo LP via Further in 2011. Fogliata is probably best known for his collaboration with Donato Dozzy on the Aquaplano releases, but his solo works taps into a similarly deep and hypnotic vibe. The label says that Hyperboreal was made with "the minimum of fuss," using only one synth (the Ekdahl Polygamist) and some pedals, while Fogliata was staying at Neel's house in Rome. "I fell in love with it from the first sight," Fogliata says about the now-discontinued Ekdahl synth. "Aesthetics are very important to me, if I don't like the way a synth looks like I can't get anything from it. Just like when meeting a nice person but there's no physical attraction, it can be a good friendship, nice conversations but 'love' is missing, and making music is making love so this aspect has a huge influence on creativity. Being surrounded by beauty makes me feel better and reinforces the positive feedback." Further says that Hyperboreal is an album "for colder climates, for stark and inhospitable landscapes."
