Dutch DJ Junkie XL (real name: Tom Holkenberg) will release a new studio album, "Radio JXL - A Broadcast From the Computer Hell Cabin," June 2 internationally via Roadrunner. Although a single disc of 10 tracks intended for the set has been circulating amongst electronic music aficionados since last year, a number of those songs have been removed from "Broadcast," which will be a double-CD set split into "3 p.m." and "3 a.m." motifs.
According to Junkie XL's official website. the "3 p.m." disc "represents daytime radio and dance music merged with pop music," while "3 a.m." "reflects nighttime radio ... it starts slowly and dubby, and builds up over 70 minutes to steaming techno."
An array of guest vocalists lend their talents to the "3 p.m. disc," including former Republica vocalist Saffron on "Rehsurc," "Beauty Never Fades," and "Spirits"; soul legend Solomon Burke on first single "Catch Up to My Step"; Public Enemy's Chuck D on "Access to the Excess"; Gary Numan on "Angels"; Sasha on "Breezer"; and the late Peter Tosh on "Sleepy Policeman."
The DJ is also gearing up for the May 5 launch of his Radio JXL Web site, which will offer live streaming broadcasts from his sets across the world, as well as a "third, 'hidden' transmission" intended as a companion to the new album. In the meantime, a commercial single for "Catch Up to My Step" will be released April 28 internationally, appended by remixes from Boss&Nova, Frank T., and Minimalistix.
Junkie XL shot to international fame last year thanks to his remix of Elvis Presley's "A Little Less Conversation," which reached No. 1 on the U.K. singles chart and Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Sales tally.
