  • Matmos have a new album called Plastic Anniversary due out on Thrill Jockey in March. Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt, who often take a conceptual approach to their albums, have created a record solely from sounds sourced from different plastic objects. It's a commentary on the world's relationship to the material and its role as a "force of environmental devastation." The album's title is also a reference to their own anniversary as a romantic couple, which coincides with the LP's release. Guest musicians on Plastic Anniversary include members of the horn and drumline sections of the Whitefish Highschool Bulldogs, as well as drummer Greg Saunier of Deerhoof. Plastic Anniversary is a follow-up to their RA-Recommended album, Ultimate Care II, which was made entirely from the sounds of a single washing machine. Watch a trailer for the new album.
