  • RPM Distribution appears to be shutting down. The Canadian vinyl distributor abruptly announced the plan to clients yesterday in an email from owner Paul Herzog. The message says, "No orders will be processed moving forward and any existing orders in the system will be cancelled," and that "new returns will not be issued or accepted," potentially causing inventory problems for record stores and labels. RPM worked with major labels like Universal Music Group but also serviced numerous independent imprints including Diagonal, Ostgut Ton, PAN, Finders Keepers, Bureau B, Sub Rosa, Ideal and more. RPM was based in Ontario, where a new vinyl pressing plant opened back in 2018. Another Canadian company, Viryl, developed a new vinyl press designed to help plants manufacture records more efficiently in the same year.
