- Jag Trax is available as a free download now.
Gold Panda has released an album, Jag Trax, under a new alias, DJ Jenifa.
The nine-track album, available now for free download on Bandcamp as well as streaming platforms, is made up of hip-hop and house tracks "largely based around single looped samples, kick drums and an MPC," the press release says. The material largely stems from the productive period around when Gold Panda (real name Derwin Dicker) wrote his last album, 2016's Good Luck And Do Your Best.
Jag Trax is inspired by the classic hip-hop acts The Beatnuts, A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, Busta Ryhmes and Naughty By Nature, and its title was inspired by the 2003 S-Type Jaguar he owned at the time. "It's kind of like driving a luxury armchair," he recalls. "I bought it from my neighbour. I would make these tracks that I could just play loud in the Jag, like when I was driving to [producer] Luke Abbott's studio to mix Good Luck And Do Your Best. They were songs that I could just bang out on the motorway and make the journey go quicker."
