  • There's a new art and music venue opening in Zandaam on Friday called Het HEM. Het HEM is situated in a former bullet factory in a city just north of Amsterdam and is run by Kim Tuin, former general manager of Amsterdam's legendary Trouw club. The venue will function as a multipurpose art space, including gallery exhibition rooms, a library, restaurant and cafe, along with a music bar in the basement that will be programmed by Orpheu The Wizard. Het HEM will host Edson Sabajo and Guillaume Schmidt as the first guest curators, with Nicolas Jaar to follow. There will also be an artists in residence programme, with Steven van Lummel to start. He'll transform the building into an interactive art installation and "research centre," though exact details are still under wraps. Every three months a new residency will be given to another artist to complete another "chapter" in Het HEM's story. The music bar, meanwhile, will see DJ sets from the likes of Suzanne Kraft and Kléo in the opening months.
