  • A Polish charity compilation with more than 100 tracks will raise money for queer grassroots organisations after an outbreak of violence at a Pride event last month. Total Solidarity features 113 tracks by local and international artists. object blue, Drvg Cvltvre, Borusiade, Lee Gamble, Dale Cornish, Varg²™, Rui Ho, Peder Mannerfelt, Air Max '97, Ryan James Ford, TSVI, Electric Indigo and Violet have all contributed, as well as Poland's Catz 'N Dogz and Oramics affiliates Isnt, Mala Herba, Olivia, Avtomat and FOQL. The Polish collective, in partnership with Drvg Cvltvre's New York Haunted label, will release Total Solidarity on Saturday, August 17th. The compilation is a response to an increasingly hostile climate for LGBTQIA+ people in Poland. On July 20th, a Pride march in Bialystok was subjected to homophobic harassment and violence—a situation fuelled, observers say, by an increase in anti-gay propaganda promoted by Poland's ruling Law And Justice party, who came to power in 2015 partly on an anti-immigration agenda. The party leader, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, has also called queer culture "a threat to Polish identity." The proceeds from Total Solidarity will go towards the organisations Kampania Przeciw Homofobii and Milosc Nie Wyklucza, who will in turn redistribute the funds to smaller organisations throughout Poland.
