- Three years in the making, London breaks duo Plump DJs drop their fourth full-lengther Headthrash this summer.
London breaks duo Plump DJs are set to drop their fourth full-lengther, nearly three years since their last. Headthrash lands in early June.
The Plumps, a.k.a. Lee Rous and Andy Gardner, are arguably the most well-known and well-respected act on the breaks scene. The proof is in the pudding: debut A Plump Night Out (2000) is the bestselling breaks CD ever, their covermount disc for Mixmag in February 2001 has outsold all other issues and their FabricLive.08 mix in 2002 is the Fabric series’ biggest to date.
Like 2003’s Eargasm, Headthrash is an unmixed, straight-ahead artist album. Lead single ‘System Addict’ was rolled out last November winning Best Single at February’s 7th Annual Breakspoll awards, where the Plumps also took home the Best Producer trophy.
‘System Addict’ was a heavier and more serious track out-of-line with the duo’s typically funky approach, and Headthrash sees them straying further out of genre boundaries. New single ‘Torque of the Devil’ is a 4/4 stomping house track, whereas ‘He Got Beef’ scrapes the low-end at just 75 bpm. Headthrash also features collaborations with UK soul singers Niara Scarlett and Sharlene Hector on ‘Shifting Gears’ and ‘Victim’, respectively.
