  • Ian Pooley is one of Germany's first generation of DJ and producers. But instead of following the distinctly Teutonic sounds emanating from Berlin or Frankfurt, Pooley fell in love with the grooves of Chicago and Detroit. Along with DJ Tonka, Pooley pushed a housier sound and, as a solo artist, he found enormous success—eventually leading to a major label deal with V2 that yielded albums like Meridian and Since Then. The latter showcased his love of Brazilian music, and it's that sound (mixed with house of course) that he came to be associated with throughout much of the first-half of the '00s. At a certain point, though, Pooley found himself burned out—tired of the genre. This coincided with a move to Berlin six years ago, and he's since found new inspiration. In fact, he'll have a new track out on Innervisions in September, and a new album before the end of the year. RA's Todd L. Burns and Pooley charted his artistic ups and downs earlier this year in Berlin.
