  • Jesper Dahlbäck recently returned to his The Persuader alias after a 16-year break. At first, he was against the idea—the Swedish producer generally likes to look forwards, not backwards—but his arm was twisted by a growing interest in his back catalogue from a new generation of partygoers and promoters. This new wave of appreciation is no surprise. Dahlbäck has been doing his thing since the early '90s, when a formative weekend at the Love Parade in Berlin inspired him to start making techno. He found some like-minded souls, Adam Beyer and Cari Lekebusch among them, and together they put Sweden on the techno map. But straight-up floor fillers are just one part of his repertoire—some of his best work came when he became "bored of techno" in the late '90s and released a string of jazzy, dubby records on cult label Svek. He dropped by our London office recently to speak to Aaron Coultate about his story so far.
