The weekly RA Exchange is a series of conversa- tions with artists, labels and promoters shaping the electronic music landscape.

RA.EX068 Atom TM

A leading light in experimental electronic music shares his optimism for the future.

Uwe Schmidt once went by many names—Atom Heart, Dropshadow Disease, Lisa Carbon, Geez N Gosh, Phresh Phantasy among them—but now he is down to two monikers for his experimental electronic music: Atom TM and Senor Coconut. The Latin techno covers project is likely his best known. But Schmidt started his career in Frankfurt where he gained initial fame via his voluminous output on Pete Namlook's Fax imprint, his own Rather Interesting label and countless others. Schmidt has been a vocal critic of the conservatism in electronic music over the past few years. But as we found out when he came to Berlin late last month, he's extremely optimistic about what the future holds for precisely that reason.
