The weekly RA Exchange is a series of conversa- tions with artists, labels and promoters shaping the electronic music landscape.

RA.EX009 Future Classic

We chat to the brains behind Australia's house and disco authority.

One of the most respected imprints operating out of Australia, Future Classic doesn't just have music on its mind. They also operate successful touring and design agencies, and a music licensing arm, all while promoting their own weekly Adult Disco parties, which brings some of the world's foremost house and disco DJs to Sydney's Civic Hotel. The label itself, with its steady mix of international and Australian artists, has become renowned for its consistency, and its status as a musical link between Australia and the rest of the world.

To tell the Future Classic story, we caught up with founder Nathan McLay, design head Jay Ryves and touring and label all-rounder Chad Gillard. Set in the basement of the Civic Hotel, the trio described the unique challenges of promoting electronic music in Australia and how they so successfully straddle the music and design worlds.
