RA.EX091 Damian Lazarus

The Crosstown Rebels boss goes deep.

You may know him as the man behind RA's #1 label of 2011, Crosstown Rebels, but were you aware that Damian Lazarus was once an editor at London music mag Dazed & Confused or that drum & bass changed his life? The knack for the big hit that has seen the likes of Art Department and Maceo Plex rise to such prominence over the past two years was honed in the mid-'90s at London Records working with Phil Howells and Pete Tong, and later at the UK capital's electroclash pioneer City Rockers. (Don't call it electroclash in front of Lazarus, though.) As you'll hear in this two hour chat, Lazarus is hyper-aware of the press side...and the money side...and, most of all, the music side of this thing we call electronic music. In advance of his appearance at this year's Lovebox festival, we caught up with Lazarus to talk about all of them.
