Frost (Dmitry Sokolschik) was born in Perm in 1987 in a family devoted to music. His mother studied 2 specialties at a music school: piano and violoncello, his father besides successful completion of piano classes, during school and university years was playing drums at one Perm rock band. Childhood and school years of Dmitry were distinguished with rock music. This music was especially loved by his family (from Queen and Def Leppard to heavy and trash metal groups like Iron Maiden, Master , Aria, Metallica and Megadeth). At the age of 8 he started studying music at school in order to master this art following his parents. Thus he got acquainted with a synthesizer that was given to Dmitry and his father for summer vacations, and after vacations they presented fruit of their labour (famous songs and their own songs) at school concerts. At 14 he joined Perm rock band “Generation” (keyboard instrument). The band didn’t exist for a long time, unfortunately. Upon graduation from a music school Dmitry got a serious interest in electronic music and mastered DJ skills. At the beginning he was playing mainly progressive house. Soon after the beginning of his carrier DJ Frost was amazed with minimal and techhouse and became one of pioneers of minimal music movement in Perm. He’s known not only as a DJ, but a party promoter. As a member of various promo-groups he participated in organization of the first series of minimalistic parties in his city “Micropuzzle” (2005-2006), “Teknofactory” rave at an abandoned “Kommunar” plant facilities (2006), series of parties “Minimal Room” (2007-2008) and techno festival “Birds of Prey” (2008).
?ross (Alexander Konshin) was born in 1984 in Perm in a family not only devoted to music but to DJ profession: Alexander’s father in the 80-es was playing tape reels with disco music at one of the most popular Perm discos called “Kalinka” (now you shouldn’t be surprised why Alexander chose DJ profession?)))). Under influence of his father so devoted to music Cross was amazed with music by Telex and Jean Michel Jarre during his childhood. The first composer’s experience was gained by Alexander in 1997 during working in “ImpulseTracker” programme creating his favorite trance music. In 2001 he started his DJ carrier. In 2005 Cross became famous in Perm as party promoter. He was organizing parties in such famous underground clubs as “Tochka” and “Lime”. At the same time he got interested in minimal music and became one of the first minimal DJs in Perm. In his music sets that are recognized with the first sounds he prefers such labels as Minibar, Hartchef, Klangscheiben, Telegraph, Miniatura, Circus Company, Multi Vitamins. Alex was presenting his sets to Perm people at practically all well-known minimal and techno parties, such as “Teknofactory”, “Minimal Room”, “Birds of Prey” and many others. He was a guest star in practically all underground clubs of Perm and Perm region.
In 2009 DJ Cross and DJ Frost have definitely decided to bring something new from their music to the world and united their efforts, established a studio, bought the required software and started working. Significant DJ experience and variety of music tastes have brought their results: music by Cross & Frost lays somewhere between techhouse, minimal and techno, influenced by microhouse, tribal, rock-n-roll, jazz, swing and God-knows-what else, at the same time it’s still funky & dancefloor friendly. |
