Commercial foray on one side, personal idealism on the other and nothing in between, right? Not for Ebby (a.k.a Fabian Nusi). After quitting a successful 12-year career in advertising to become a full-fledged DJ and independent artist, Ebby finally has proven that there can be a balance between the two sides. A voracious music collector since his teens, Ebby decided to become a underground DJ back in 2001, playing anything from jazz and afro funk to house and broken beats, he has been spinning one open-minded set after another at fashionable venues like Shy Rooftop, Parc, Paparazzi, Prego, Cinnabar, Dragon Fly, Circa, Manna House, Balcony, Barcode & Forbidenciti. as well as prestigious events such as the Java Jazz Festival (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), JakJazz Festival (2007), Jazz Masa Kini , Jakarta Crossover Jazz Festival & Soundrise Festival Bali 2009. Ebby has played along his favorite artists such Osunlade, Karizma, Jurgen (Jazzanova), Jaques Renault (DFA Records), DjB, Amp Fiddler, Toshio Matsuura, DJ Kaori, Cro Magnon, Koop, Nouvelle Vague and his biggest inspiration Daz-I-Kue and Afronought (Bugz in the attic)
A passion for eclecticism that Ebby has not confined to his music but that rather defines the nature of his broader artistic impulses, as testified by the fact that he can be found these days splitting his time between DJ-ing, creating street culture-inspired works of art, and independent graphic designing, with appreciation coming from the work he has pursued in all three areas.
Ebby hold two residency right now at Immigrant and Tabac, where he usualy play 5 hours set of jazz, soul, funk, broken beat and deep house. |
