The Black Dog & Black Sifichi - Genetically Modified

  • 'Genetically Modified' is the latest in an increasingly long line of remix collections, but when your interpreters include Jimmy Cauty and 808 State it's bound to be a disc worth hearing. And so it proves. Cauty opens things up with a typically offbeat version of 'Invisible Things'. The trademark deep spoken word that accompanies much of this music continues through remixes from Technova ('Interview') and Black Dog themselves ('Unsavoury Products') until the darkly humorous 'Mental Health Hotline' gets a thumping roller coaster ride courtesy of CJ Bolland. There's a couple more jacking techno cuts - 'Let's Talk Music' from 808 State should get the neighbours up! - and room for a Balearic twist from Mescalito, with the simple yet effective 'Invisible Things'. The Laub mix of 'New Your Dorx' is something else though, a paranoid trip gone wrong. Closing with ten snapshot adverts, most of them very funny, this is a remix portfolio well worth opening.
