Zero db: Reconstruction

  • Share
  • The two men behind Zero dB are Neil Combstock (aka Frank de Jojo) and Chris Vogado (aka The Vogado Projects), and Reconstruction pulls together nine of their remixes in full effect, with satisfied customers including the Peace Orchestra, Truby Trio and Original Soulboy. If you were expecting comfortable nu-jazz to do the DIY to you won't find it here, for this is at times a challenging, invigorating and intense experience. Nowhere more so than in the opening 'Satellites Are Spinning' where the duo take Sun Ra on a psychedelic trumpet trip. There's more from the frantic end in 'Samba Do Gringo' from Suba, and the Truby's 'Galicia' but 'Xtradition' from Interfearance is a more chilled out house offering. Jazz heads will love this record, and as a lesson in the art of remixing it's hard to knock. Most intriguing is the booklet, containing comments from the original artists on the Zero dB versions. Interesting stuff, and as Acme's Adam Philips says, 'excited, happy and very afraid'.
