- Adjacent to the scenic Marina Bay, the Japanese-themed Kinki Bar that hosted Space Dimension Controller's recent showing in Singapore was cooling down nicely under the waning sun in the hours before his Wednesday evening slot. The pools of the after-work crowd clad in collared shirts and pants eventually dissolved away, making room for the electronic music fans streaming into the rooftop bar. Space Dimension Controller (SDC), AKA Jack Hamill, who, at the tender age of 19, released on the much-respected R&S label had been enlisted to headline the event, and the small and intimate space, with a capacity of 150, suited his sound perfectly.

Singaporean stalwart Funk Bast*rd and former Zouk resident Brendon P handled the night's opening slot. Well in their element, the duo bounced about like neutrons in Brownian motion. By the time SDC took over at close to midnight, the last traces of working men had courteously departed, encouraging a tight dance floor to form. SDC piloted seemingly effortlessly through his set, from his own transatlantic numbers to disco cuts like Midnight Star's "Midas Touch" and Chic's "Dance," as well as Todd Terje's instant crowd-pleaser "Inspector Norse." And as the night went by, the stars came out to the sounds of Todd Terry and Bob Sinclar, each thrown down with a healthy smattering of effects. To sparking yelps of disbelief, SDC closed the night with Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere." With satisfied smiles all round, we happily bade the Space Dimension Controller back to his faraway hometown as the curtains closed on a successful night.
