- In just one short year, London outfit Krush have hosted a smartly chosen range of heavy hitters—from Mathew Jonson and Roman Flügel to Tiger & Woods. Their most recent Saturday night fixture featured Omar-S. Alongside their lineups, Krush has a philosophy of recreating a "house party" vibe (presumably without strangers puking in your mum's potted plants). This includes a signature lighting scheme involving lampshades, while also having a venue policy of warehouse spaces.
Although their warehouse locations may seem at odds with their aim of creating a homely atmosphere, at their latest showing, organisers convincingly hit some of the more subtle elements of a house party. It wasn't too rammed, there were bays removed from the dance floor where people could kick back, and a wide main room where you could either immerse yourself, or hang off to one side where the lower volume and ample light allowed for conversation. It made for a nice mix of high quality music and socialising. The system was clear but not overbearing, which allowed you to hear the detail in the music without too much ringing in the ears the next day.
Wearing a bucket hat, Omar-S's set sounded, as could be expected, very Omar-S. It consisted of roughshod constructions of vintage lines that were full of character, and plenty of his own tracks. Rather than peaking later on—"Here's Your Trance" was played fairly early—it had an energy which rolled along in quite a constant manner, while always sounding lively and fresh. His tracks have a texture that makes great home listening material, and that night they had a drive and punch to them as well which didn't mean giving up the detail; the best of both worlds.
