Noze - When Tiger Smoked Remixes"When Tiger Smoked" was one of the more sober cuts from Dring, Nôze's most recent and most inebriated full-length on Get Physical. Its rasping electro bassline does hint at unhinged madness from start to finish, but instead of spraying far and wide it's kept in check by marching drums and constant perc, and is sweetened by a finger plucked Spanish guitar, sad oboe (or something) and heavy hearted keys. Said orchestral leanings, frankly, make it the perfect bait for a remix by the Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble, who replace the long and languid groove with intricate micro-evolving rhythms. Dance floor potential? Not great, but jazz infused home-listening head-fuck highs? Very likely.
Away from those Disney animated instrumentals of BBF, Smash TV serves up a much more fulsome remix that pairs rigid machine noises with rubberised kicks for something that builds and maintains tension for seven minutes.
