Apparently mixing the club's anniversary compilation wasn't enough, and Detroit's Mike Huckaby has gone and carved a love letter to the Berlin club into wax. The Tresor EP is a comprehensive tribute to the former power plant complex, with a track for each of the venue's clubbing areas.
The main room's turn—"The Tresor Track"—is suitably banging but silkily streamlined. Its series of throbbing chords rush by in harshly-panned sweeps, as fluid synth elements are throttled by the track's rigid and measured march. Providing the rinsed-out druggy vibes is "Basement Trax," which sucks the life out of the A-side like a particularly bad case of dry mouth from... well, you know. This one has the same hypnotically circling synth elements, but they feel sinister, underpinned by a heart-palpitating flutter as the foundation convulses tauntingly. Then we have "The Upstairs Lounge," which is exactly the respite from the lurid flavours of the Basement that it should be. Built on a swung, garage-esque beat, it swallows up drab chord stabs into its heaving concave vortex.
