Maceo Plex & Jon Dasilva - Love Somebody Else

  • You can't accuse Maceo Plex on taking the easy route on this sinuous deep house shakedown. "Love Somebody Else" is an all-new version of an unreleased Jon Dasilva remix of a Colourblind cover of a Jones Girls' disco staple. Got your head round that one? Former Haçienda ressie Dasilva was hauled back into the studio by Eric Estornel to do it all again from scratch, and even got '90s house stalwart Joi Cardwell to re-record her vocals as well. The result is a charged, disco-laced house anthem with a bass keys arrangement that stomps across the track like a buffalo stampede. It doesn't pretend to be dripping with cool, but if its MO is to be a laser-targeted retro house dance floor bomb then it hits the bulls-eye. On the other side, "Future Musik" doffs his cap to an old, unreleased track by Chilean/German combo Closer Musik (Dirk Leyers and Matias Aguayo), serving up an elegant record of scuttling, moody house music. Roy Ayers-style keys and chunky tom-toms are later joined by tripped out, analogue synth pads that whirr and groan before wooshing off into the atmosphere. It's fragile, soporific and supremely elegant.
