- No Equal Sides is an all Leeds affair as Audiojack's James Rial and Richard Burkinshaw return for their seventh EP for their hometown label, 20:20 Vision, by showing off their ability to make nuanced but hard-hitting house grooves.
The lead cut, "No Equal Sides" gallops along over seven minutes, at first daubing it with ravey synth passages, tough kicks and TIE fighter-style laser cannons along the length of its heads-down groove—but then it takes a left turn and ushers in trippy, deep house pads.
They keep the warmth in on "Tunnel Vision," a glistening after-hours urban house jam that could sit easily on a Rinse FM playlist with its lazy tempo, cut-up soul vocals, cotton wool synths and jittery rhythm. The EP's closer, "In Principle," mixes the tough with smooth. With the sound of a distant party in the background, it veers from pogoing synth bassline and tough breakbeat to feathery deep house synths and cooing celestial voices. A whole bunch of ideas then, but Audiojack secure the win by keeping it cohesive.
