Medway & Sean Cusick - Neutrix / Stray Cuts

  • Medway & Sean Cusick need no introduction to be honest. Both have graced the scene with stunning productions over the years, with Jesse ‘Medway’ Skeen in particular providing great cuts such as ‘The Ressurrection EP’, ‘The Baseline Track’ and ‘Flanker’ just to name a few. Sean Cusick hasn’t been too shabby either with the deep baselines of ‘Of Course’ and the tasty ‘Out in the Shed’ due out on Hallucination Limited. For the time being however, the two unite yet again to deliver another stellar release on the ever reliable SAW Recordings. On the a-side is the absolutely stunning ’Neutrix’. It begins with a clutter of broken beats and echoing effects, a rather intriguing beginning. As the track builds, a screeching, but subtle, baseline enters the fray as the drums also start to intensify. Midway into the track, the real guts of the production enter, that is, the eerie yet beautifully enticing main melodic swoops. Some atmospheric sounds also come in to it, a aspect that helps the track conclude in stylish fashion. Quality. On the flip is the quirky ’Stray Cuts’. In a similar fashion to the ‘Neutrix’, the track begins with some drums and bleeps that are scattered all over the place. A similar baseline enters the track giving it a groove as all the sounds bounce all over the production. The track maintains a similar pattern throughout, however, the very nature of the sounds and effects really give the track a great appeal. This is some trippy electronic music at its best. It’s another winning result, not only for Medway & Sean Cusick, but also for US based SAW Recordings. With efforts from Satoshi Tomiie and Cass forthcoming, it looks as if there is no rest from SAW in terms of delivering quality records. Be sure to check this release out as it is sure to intrigue with two unique productions.
